Computing has become a central pillar of modern scientific research—alongside experimental and theoretical research. Automated technologies now generate massive volumes of data that must be stored, organized, and analyzed to extract meaningful insights. New discoveries are increasingly data-driven, requiring comparisons with large public datasets and the use of advanced computational models to simulate complex systems in silico.
As the center for scientific computing at the University of Basel, sciCORE supports this data-intensive research by providing advanced infrastructure, secure environments, and expert guidance to researchers and students.
We offer:
High-Performance Computing (HPC): We provide powerful compute and storage systems, designed for large-scale data processing and simulation. sciCORE maintains and continuously evolves this infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the research community.
Trusted Research Environments (TREs): We provide secure, access-controlled computing environments through the sciCORE+ platform, for handling sensitive research data in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Research Support & Consulting: We offer personalized support for efficient resource usage, workflow optimization, and grant proposal planning. sciCORE also participates in national computational projects and initiatives, and hosts globally used bioinformatics services in partnership with the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
Training & Education: We provide training (in collaboration with SIB) and tailored consulting in HPC usage, scientific computing, bioinformatics, statistics, and code optimization.
Hosted Platforms & Tools: We host and support key platforms for research data and software management, including GitLab, LabKey, REDCap, and RStudio.
